As soon as I’m done, I go to my contact in the marketing department, who always has new tasks ready for me. - What are your tasks in accounting?
One department that you pass through during your training as a wholesale and foreign trade clerk is accounting. The area of responsibility there essentially comprises the management of accounts receivable and accounts payable. That’s why we take calls from customers or suppliers. We book all business transactions, carry out the dunning process or administer and book the cash desk. We also process bank statements and post incoming and outgoing payments.
I am in the accounts payable area, where I check the incoming invoices of suppliers on a daily basis in terms of content and fact and register them in the accounting system. When clarifying ambiguities with the supplier, I particularly test my communication skills. What I like best about the department is the positive working atmosphere and the mix of independent action and thinking. Through this diversified activity I learn new things every day and always face new challenges.

I had the privilege of working several times with one of our fitters to install a locking system. This is very exciting because you can accompany a project from start to finish. It is then not only a matter of preparing a customer offer, order entry and final order from the manufacturer, but also of creating and revising a locking plan, labelling the floor plans, preparing the assembly, and finally installing the locking cylinders. This means you know the doors and where which cylinder was installed. This helps a lot when the customer has questions. It is also advantageous to get to know the customers personally, as this creates better customer loyalty.

- What does a typical day in freight forwarding look like?
The first thing we do in the morning is to start distributing the orders that have come from our branches. Once this is done, the deliveries are made available for our major customers. Some customers have delivery days, i.e. our customer orders as often as he wants and we collect the goods, which are then completely dispatched every Wednesday, for example. For this purpose, certain guidelines must be observed and loading lists must be compiled. For customers who do not have a delivery day, the goods are recorded by our customer service in the system and the certificate is sent directly to the respective order picker.
All goods that are too large or too heavy for DPD shipping are shipped on a pallet with the shipping company. In the evening the different forwarding agencies come and load the pallets onto the truck. Since Zweygart has over 20,000 different stock items, every forwarding order represents a new challenge for packaging. The goods must be packed, weighed and recorded in the system.
